A chimney's main purpose is to emit gaseous products of combustion from a structure. It should be high enough so that the discharged products of combustion would not cause air pollution. It should be designed to withstand wind pressure and seismic forces like earthquakes. For residential chimneys, there are codes to follow for fire safety reasons. A chimney should consist of the following: chimney cap, crown, flue, ash damp and clean-out door. A chimney that would last a lifetime should have intricate planning and designing. Follow the steps below for a long-lasting chimney.
