To Heal Open Wounds Faster

Even at home, people are still prone to accidents. Kids while playing, moms while cooking, dads doing repair works and so on are all prone to bruises and wounds. There are two types of wounds, close wound and open wound. An open wound is characterized by a tear of the outer layer of the skin and bleeding. So when treatment is given we oftentimes wonder when the wound is going to heal.   Here's what we can do to speed up the healing process.

How To / Instruction

Difficulty: Normal
  • Step

    1

Open wounds have a priority, typically bleeding first, cleaning after, then bandaging appropriately.

  • Step

    2

If the wound is bleeding cover it with a clean towel (sometimes this is a luxury, so grab something close), then place it on the wound.

  • Step

    3

If the wound is bleeding apply direct pressure waiting between 2-5 minutes (for most clots).

  • Step

    4

Once bleeding is stopped, clean the surrounding area (never directly).

  • Step

    5

Cleaning disinfects the area, limiting infection.

  • Step

    6

Then cover with bandage or for smaller cuts a band aid will do.

  • Step

    7

Wounds heal faster if you allow it not to be touched incessantly. As well as when bandages are changed regularly.

  • Step

    8

Clean areas are important to avoid opportunistic infections (causing issues in recovery).

Tips and Warnings

  • Get medical attention if needed - this is the first step in how to heal an open wound faster.

  • Avoid infection - make sure to wash the open wound well with soap and water and use an anti-septic. If an infection occurs, this will delay the healing of the wound and make it heal slower.

  • For severe wounds it is always advisable to consult a physician to see if it requires stitching and to avoid further harm to the wound.
