Cats can be so cute and adorable but if you're the kind who isn't into pets, you may one day find yourself having to get rid of one. Cats multiply at a very fast rate and a couple in your neighborhood can turn into a dozen before you know it. Cats in your yard can trample on your flowers and some people find their noise very annoying. The smell of cat urine and feces is not too pleasant either. If you can't learn to love them, you just simply have to find ways to get rid of them. Here are some ways of controlling the feline problem:

How To / Instruction

Difficulty: Normal
  • Step

    1

Utilize humane methods of keeping cats away by using electronic devices that emit high pitched sounds inaudible to humans but extremely annoying to cats.

  • Step

    2

Contact your local animal control authorities and see if they rescue and find homes for stray cats.

  • Step

    3

Look up animal shelters in the phone book that provide care to stray and unwanted animals.

Tips and Warnings

  • If electronic devices are not available, water sprinklers and orange-scented sprays may do the trick. Cats usually dislike the smell of oranges. Apply it on your porch or in the garden to keep cats at bay.

  • The cat may be someone's pet so ask around the neighborhood if they have a cat missing. You can also make fliers and put them up in the neighborhood. And while you ask around, see if there is somebody interested in adopting the cat as a pet. You may be able to find it a good home yourself.

  • If the cat wrecking havoc on your garden happens to be your neighbor's pet, let them know how you feel about it. You can ask them politely to keep their pet indoors and make sure it is neutered. They will be able to take action and keep the cat away from you and your home.
