A snood is a hair accessory that looks like a net. Women wear them to keep their hair in place. It's also worn to accessorize the hair, especially for low buns. Snoods have been worn since the medieval era. In the early times, it is improper if too much hair is seen, snoods allow women to conform with the rules and still show hints of their rich mane. Nowadays, snoods are worn for renaissance parties, wedding, dramas and themed parties. Wearing them is quite a breeze and is easy to master.

How To / Instruction
Difficulty: Normal
-
Step
1Brush your hair thoroughly to remove any snarls or tangles. You may want to make it easy to set your hair for the snood. Gather your hair into a ponytail at the base of your head or the top of your neck.
-
Step
2Then fully open the snood and place the back rim under your ponytail and the front over the center of your head. Pull the tie or elastic closing mechanism of your snood until it closes snugly around your head. The lobes of your ears should be outside the snood, while the remainder of your ear should be covered.
-
Step
3Secure the snood in place with bobby pins, if necessary. This will keep your snood in place. It is important that your snood is tight enough so it won't be removed from your hair. You can also apply hairspray to keep your hair in place beneath the snood.
-
Step
4You can also apply hairspray after you pull your hair back into a ponytail. This keeps layered hair in place as you put your snood on. A well placed snood gives an extra classic look.
Tips and Warnings
Use hairspray to keep your snood and hair in place.
Bobby pins are helpful to keep your snood tight enough.
Now you look classic. Enjoy your look!

These are so creative, I believe I could make one if I tried. They are also good for your hair to keep it out of your eyes while you are cleaning.

Snoods can be quite cute. Good for keeping your hair out of your face at work, and better-looking than a hairnet.

These are very old-fashioned (as in Victorian times) items that are making a come-back. They're basically fancy hairnets. And they look much better than what the lunch ladies wear!

I have seen a snood but never knew what it was called. I'm sure that these items are adorable on some people but it would make me feel like an Amish member.

I didn't even know snood was a word. I have seen them before and they are very nice. I now know what they are called when I go to look for one at the store. Also, I never thought you would need bobby pins to keep it in place. Thank you for the knowledge. I have a new word.

Does anyone actually wear these anymore? I've never seen a single one...
Posted 2011-04-10
I, also, never knew these had an official name. There are so many different kinds, though. I think the smaller bun-appropriate ones look a little better.

I love snoods but never got the hang of putting it on and gave up on it. This How To was very useful so that I can try these again. Ways you can improve: put pictures of each step.

The earthy side of me would really like to wear one of these, but, I just don't know if I can pull it off. Snood is a great word though.

I think it's interesting. This article needs more pictures because I can't tell whether I like it or not. By the picture, it almost looks like she's wearing it as a mask. That would've been extermely wierd!

Wearing a snood is a great way to dress up your typical hair style or to keep your hair attractively out of the way during sporting activities.
