Heat rash is the blockage of the sweat ducts in the skin, usually in hot humid climates. Wearing too much restrictive clothes and heavy clothing in hot weather worsens the condition as the clothes prevent the skin from breathing. Heat rashes are notoriously uncomfortable and causes us to unending scratching, which can damage our skin. On the other hand, it usually goes away by itself, and can be treated easily. There are different effective ways of treating a heat rash, and some comforting practice while you have one. Here are helpful tips to stop the itching and have the soothing relief away from heat rash.

    Get out of the heat and into a shade or an air conditioned room. You need to identify heat rash, bumps on the skin like a pimple and can be reddish. Clean the affected area with mild soap. You can take a cool bath to calm or subdue the itching feeling but do not use any creams as they can cause irritation.

    After the bath, ensure you dry the rash area try to keep it open to air and let it dry you can use corn starch to help keep the surface dry. You can pat a dry cotton towel but be careful not to rub or irritate the skin. You can apply Calamine lotion, hydrocortisone cream or over the counter lotions such as Cetaphil. Follow the instruction on the label and repeat as needed in 2 to 3 days.

    Taking an oatmeal or soothing baking soda bath can help relieve the itching. You can dissolve 3 tbsp of baking soda or grind 1 cup of dry oatmeal in a blender and add to your bath water. You can soak for 15 to 20 minutes. Rinse and dry thoroughly.

    Drink plenty of water to keep moisture in your system. Do not exercise or cause body temperature to rise as this can cause sweating and infect the rash and prevent healing.

    If the rash, has gotten worse, or has developed fever, seek the doctor's help. If heat rash is on a newborn or baby please seek medical advise before using creams as allergic reaction can cause further damage and pain.
