Scrapes are maybe considered minor wounds and the treatment is pretty simple too.  Minor injuries as they may seem but even a simple scrape could be deep and be infected without proper care.  It is always important, mostly for parents to know how to treat minor injuries such as these since kids are hyper that they become more prone to scrapes.  It is advisable for every household to secure first aid kits so when accidents happen you can give initial treatment to your child and even to yourself.  You'll only need basic first aid to treat scrapes. The most important thing is that to avoid infection and here's how you can do that.

  • Step

    1

    Clean the area with soap and water. Pat dry with a sterile towel. You may also take a the cotton ball (gauze even), dip it into a sterilized water and clean the area.

    Once done cleaning the wound, apply an antibiotic ointment or a solution that is best for wound. Your first aid kit is equipped with different types of ointments and solutions that treats specific types of wound.

    Cover the wound with a gauze or a bandage. For smaller scrapes you may use band aid.

    You may not cover the wound depending on how big the wound is. Though for kids since they are more active and there's a possibility of getting dirt into the wound it is advisable to cover it.

Tips and Warnings

  • Be sure to wash your hands or disinfect before treating the wound.

  • Be sure to get or wash all the dirt that you can see on the wound.

  • Be sure to change bandages regularly to keep the wound clean.

  • If the cut is deep and is bleeding putting on latex or surgical gloves before administering first aid is advisable.

  • Keep the wound moist to heal quicker.
