What is an Antimacassar?

An Antimascassar is a cloth or covering that is placed on the back of chairs or sofas, at the point where your head would touch the fabric. It is meant to prevent the wear or soiling of the furniture fabric. Also known as 'couch doilies'. Originally made and more commonly used when men used hair oils for styling.
