What Is a Cold Boot?

A cold boot is a fancier way of saying you turned on a computer. It means you didn't select restart, or reboot, or even rehash (from some ancient systems) -- that would be a warm boot -- but that you physically started a computer by pressing the power button. It's also called a hard boot, sometimes.
