An IP Address (Internet Protocol) is a number which identifies your computer to other computers over the internet. The IP address is unique to your computer. It is anonymous and can only be known to the user of the computer.
IP addresses are binary numbers, with 32-bit system and it defines both network and host address. An IPv4 address is divided into two parts: network and host address. The network address determines how many of the 32 bits are used for the network address, and remaining bits for the host address. The host address can further divided into subnetwork and host number.
On the Macintosh to get your IP address try the following:
Apple Menu click Control Panels and hit TCP/IP Control Panel. Your IP address will show in your monitor. For Windows, you can view your IP address by clicking RUN from the start-up menu, type CMD then a black window appears.
